Water Contact Indicator Tapes are self-adhesive film/paper laminate constructions that change color from white to red when contacted by liquid water. They provide a fast, accurate and easy way to positively detect water intrusion into sensitive electronic devices, including mobile handheld devices, e-books, digital cameras and laptop computers. They are especially useful for providing evidence of water damage during shipment or when validating consumer warranty claims.

3M Water Contact Indicator Tape 5557 is the workhorse of this product family and offers a comprehensive package of environmental stability, indication speed, total caliper, and printability.
3M Ultrathin Water Contact Indicator Tapes 5558 and 5559 offer a thinner total caliper, where tight geometries dictate a very low thickness water indicator product.
3M Water Contact Indicator Tape 5557NP is a new addition to this family. The product retains most of the premium attributes of 5557 indicator tape while offering enhanced indication speed through the removal of the top film layer.
3M Water Contact Indicator Tape 5559i has the same attributes as tape 5559 except the adhesive is on the top side for viewing through transparent substrates, which may be used in certain product designs.
