Gluing Application including dispensing, sealing, gasketing, potting, coating, and all other dispensing tasks related to liquid and specialty materials as adhesive.
An automated dispensing system can accommodate both batch and in-line flow processes. The two main types of robots used are benchtop and selective compliance assembly robot arm (SCARA) robots. A benchtop robot typically has an attached tabletop, and the movement of the table controls one axis while Cartesian, or called Gantry is part controlling the other axis.
Why should use a Gantry Robot?
The irregular work envelops of traditional jointed articulating arms may require a redesign of existing workspaces. SCARA and articulating arm robots might be the most recognizable form of the robot on the market today but look to gantry robots for getting the big jobs done in the least amount of space. As a result, mainly due to effectively working space usage, Gantry Robots also called Cartesian are almost ubiquitous with automation.
Furthermore, due to their simple design, low cost, and scalability, and the myriad of motor and control software solutions, Gantry Robot currently appears in almost every factory.
Types of Gantry Robot
Benefits of Gantry Robot
- Utilize an entire cubic work envelope, so that specially suited for application where additional orientation requirements are minimal or where the parts can be staged before the robot picks them up
- Easily scale to larger proportions in all three axes
- Thanks to the rigid lightweight structure, the Cartesian/ Gantry Robots are very accurate and repeatable
- Gantry Robots are configurable, from dimensions of working space, motor, gearbox to components and materials that could be customized under users’ demand.
- The Cartesian Coordinate Robot’s relatively simple design and straightforward operation make it highly desirable in manufacturing
- Because the individual axes can be easily replaced, downtime is reduced, and maintenance costs are kept to a minimum
Application of Gantry Robot
Gantry robots have all their axes located above the work envelope which makes them ideal for overhead work processes.
Gantry robots can be used to hold and position a variety of end-effectors such as those used in:
- Printed circuit board assembly
- Dispensing, spraying, material handling
- Palletizing, pick and place
- Assembly
- Packaging
- Camera positioning
- Inspection
